Campers become a part of a close-knit group of similar sex, age and school grade. The number of campers in each group ranges from 6 to 10, depending on the age of the campers. Two groups share a divided cabin at camp. Each group has two qualified and caring counsellors living in the cabin with them. Camp is more than just a collection of activities, it is a special community. We celebrate and enjoy the diversity of our camp community with all camp games, campfires, electives, theme days, and performance nights. YMCA Camp Falcona's 6 day program is designed to be busy! Our large, well equipped craft shop offers great opportunities for campers to express their creativity. Campers create small unique pieces of artwork, or build larger projects over the course of an entire week. Woodwork, nature study, macrame, plaster molding, paper craft, modeling, nature collages, leather work, candle making are all part of the program. The hills around Nelson Lake provide space for exploration, fun and adventure! YMCA Camp Falcona has a large sports field, creative play areas, and basket ball facilities for a quick game of 'hoops'. Hiking, field games, archery, swings, softball, soccer, make for a fun time.
A well protected bay on Nelson Lake is the perfect spot for water activities. Jumping form the high board on our swim raft or exploring the shoreline by canoe, it's all fun on the YMCA Camp Falcona waterfront. Swimming, games, sailboarding, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, diving, rowboating, will all keep campers busy! We take safety seriously at YMCA Camp Falcona. Support staff are constantly on duty to maintain safe facilities and all staff are trained in emergency and supervisory techniques. All waterfront staff members are qualified lifeguards. Campers and staff members wear lifejackets (PFDs) during all boating activities. The camp has a well-equipped Health and Wellness centre operated by qualified staff. We consult with a local on-call physician for medical directives. The camp property is accessible by ambulance. Our camps are inspected by local health departments and we conduct weekly water quality testing. |
